A. Some comments on the preparation

1. Main Author

Theo schedule, topic tuần này là Hòa. Khi để 1 Contributor dự bị như Nhung làm thì vẫn phải đề là "Prepared by Hòa & Nhung", bởi vì người đứng tên chính vẫn là Hòa. Mặc dù mọi ý tưởng là do Nhung chủ động hoàn toàn, nhưng người đứng tên chính vẫn phải là người chịu trách nhiệm chính về chất lượng topic.

Ví dụ: khi Tú Hana nhận làm topic hôm 19-10, và Trâm Kid vào hôm 16-11, 2 Contributor dự bị này không đứng tên chính. Anh Tùng vẫn đứng tên chính, và anh phải chịu hoàn toàn trách nhiệm về chất lượng topic. Khi đó, anh sẽ phải có trách nhiệm hướng dẫn mọi việc cho 2 người này (từ khám phá ý tưởng, lựa chọn topic, đến cách trình bày, v.v…)

Làm như thế thì mới có giá trị hướng dẫn và truyền đạt kinh nghiệm phải không nào? Chúng ta đang cố gắng xây dựng nguồn nhân lực cho HYEC mà.

2. Presentation

Mặc dù đây là chuyện nhỏ, nhưng anh muốn nhắc nhở 1 chút: Hòa đã nhiều lần chuẩn bị topic trên này rồi mà không chịu để ý học cách mark-up bài viết của mình gì cả! Mọi người hãy xem topic của Giang Bim mà xem: Về tiếng Anh thì anh không ngạc nhiên vì tiếng Anh của Giang luôn rất tốt. Nhưng về trình bày, Giang đã rất cố gắng dùng wiki mark-up để làm topic đẹp và rõ ràng, mặc dù đây mới là lần thứ 2 Giang post topic vào Ilovehyec.com.

Note: Anh đã edit bài post của Hòa để có một trình bày đẹp hơn. Nội dung anh vẫn giữ nguyên.

B. Comments on the topic's contents

Ý tưởng của Nhung cho topic này là rất hay, rất sâu sắc, và cũng rất thiết thực. Tuy nhiên, do hạn chế về từ vựng, Nhung trình bày hơi khó hiểu 1 chút.

Theo anh hiểu, thông điệp chính của topic này là: "Chúng ta gặp phải những vấn đề rất đa dạng trong cuộc sống. Chẳng có bài học (kinh nghiệm) nào là giống nhưng bài học trước đó. Vậy kinh nghiệm hay sự sáng tạo là quan trọng hơn?"

The way we solve problems that we face up with everyday is like you open doors. Doors are become bigger and bigger and they are different from each other. Solving problems in our everyday life is like opening doors. After figuring how to open a door, we acquire a key to that door. As we move from door to door, we accumulate "experience" — a set of keys to doors we've been through.

The problem is: doors come in different shapes and sizes and we need different keys to open them. Do you have enough “experienced keys” "keys of experience" to open every possible door? Or you want to be creative? Or do you think that, sometimes, the ability to quickly create a new key is more important than having a very large set of keys?

How many experienced keys you have?

Let's ask ourselves this question: In a relationship, what is more important — true love or communication skills? The answer is obvious: If you don't have the beautiful gift of true love, whatever you do is useless! And let me tell you this, Nhung: you have this beautiful gift in you! :-)

On the other hand, having true love doesn't guarantee a successful relationship. It takes skills and hard work for our love to flourish. Anyone who says otherwise is either naive or deluded, and is certain to set her/himself up for disappointment.

Gradual progression of public speaking skills:

I think, the following progression is the most natural way to improve your public speaking skills:

1. First, you have to actively participate in group discussions.
2. Then, you might want to volunteer to present your ideas in front of the club.
3. Then, you might want to try to moderate the discussion in your own group by asking people questions, summing up their responses, injecting new ideas to steer the discussion. Try to be aware of the flow of discussion, of when you should let people continue the current flow, and when you should inject new ideas to change the course.
4. Finally, when you're aware of what it takes to focus people's attention, you might want to volunteer to prepare a Topic as a Contributor Candidate.

I didn't really see Hà in this light. But I totally agree that Hà is a very nice girl. She offered to help me in cleaning our classroom, and was friendly and quite active in group discussion. She also took the initiative to query me about ways to be more involved in HYEC's activities. As far as first impression goes, it seemed that she's not "Công chúa bong bóng" like it's often the case with young, pretty girls nowadays.

P.S. By the way, many (and I really mean many) of my foreign friends (who have been to Korea) have commented to me that Vietnamese girls are much prettier than Korean girls in real life. I have never been to Korea personally, so I don't really have any idea. But I feel very proud (and lucky :-) to hear such comments.

I’ve read Gradual progression of public speaking skills by anh Tung. Somehow, I do want to volunteer to prepare a Topic as a Contributor Candidate, but still, I have two problems facing:
1.I’m not very confident about my English writing as it’s getting worse and worse
2.I’m kinda lack of idea about a topic which is sufficiently able to get either people’s interest or excitement. I know I need to be creative, to brain-storm. But I feel like I’m not very creative to some extents or in some particular contexts.

Hope I’ll be a better me with HYEC some day

Chỉ đọc title "Present, Gift & Souvenir" thì tôi không hiểu lắm về ý tưởng của bạn. Điều quan trọng là bạn định khai thác vấn đề gì trong mảng đề tài quà tặng và lưu niệm. Bằng cách đặt những câu hỏi khác nhau, bạn có thể khai thác theo những hướng hoàn toàn khác nhau. So right now, I can't have any comments! :-)

Anyway, tôi rất vui khi thấy bạn có ý định tham gia cùng với nhà Ếch. Để có thể hòa nhập và bắt nhịp tốt hơn với nhóm Contributors, bạn nên chọn cho mình một Mentor — người sẽ trực tiếp giúp bạn tìm hiểu tổ chức, cách hoạt động của HYEC cũng như giới thiệu bạn với các thành viên khác của đại gia đình nhà Ếch :-).

Sau khi bạn cùng đứng tên với Mentor chuẩn bị ít nhất là 2 topic papers, và gắn bó với HYEC ít nhất là 3 tháng liên tục, bạn sẽ được xét tuyển để thành một Contributor chính thức.

Hy vọng nhà Ếch sẽ sớm có thêm 1 thành viên nữa. :-)
