Re: How about reading?
Hi Someone,
what should i read?
Well… You should read things that interest you! :-)
Let me give you some examples.
- If you're interested in Sciences
- The New Scientist is a great choice. As a start, you should explore the Topic Guides at the bottom of the main page — they are current hot topics. I've just finished "The Human Brain" series. Very interesting, highly recommended.
- If you're interested in People, Society, Love, Relationships, Emotional well-being, etc.
- Psychology Today should serve you well. Poke around, take some quizzes, or dive into one of the topic areas in Experts Center.
- If you're interested in Economics, Business News & Analysis
- The Economist is a top-quality source. It's my personal opinion that everyone who consider themselves responsible members of society must scan The Economist at least once a month. And I really mean everyone: engineers, doctors, teachers, students, housewives… no exceptions!
- If you don't know what you're interested in
- General news sites such as Yahoo! News are a good source of concise, to-the-point articles that use simple grammar and basic vocabulary. Just don't rely too much on news for your understanding of the world, though. It'll give you an illusion that you know everything already! This is my favorite quote about newspapers:
Trying to determine what is going on in the world by reading newspapers is like trying to tell the time by watching the second hand of a clock.
Happy reading,
—DNT
